A bipartisan plan to bring new nuclear power stations to Wisconsin was the subject of a state Senate committee hearing on Wednesday.

At the Capitol, a pair of bills that direct state agencies to review and revise Wisconsin’s nuclear power policies made their first appearance in committee on Wednesday. New Berlin Republican Senator Julian Bradley says Wisconsin needs to take action.

“Nuclear power, and in particular next generation reactor technology, is the surest way to guarantee that we meet our base load energy generation needs,” said Bradley.

Wisconsin currently has one nuclear power plant, Point Beach Power plant in Manitowoc County.
