CHETEK, Wis. (WJMC) — The Chetek Fire Department’s annual adults and kids ice fishing tournament is this Saturday.

Anglers and families can fish any of the Chetek Chain of Lake’s six lakes and those with the biggest fish, by weight and still alive, will win prizes. The contest runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., with the registration tent in front of Pokegama Lakeside Cantina, next to the Pokegama boat landing.

Fire Chief Ryan Olson tells us about the contest prizes and raffle drawings.

“Six different categories of fish. First prize is $200, second is $100, third is $50, and then there will be fish prizes for kids 12 and under in the same categories,” Olson said. “Our grand prize [raffle] drawing this year is $5,000, second place is $3,000, third place is $1,500, and fourth is $500. And then we have all the gun raffles that we normally do. We sell our raffle tickets at local businesses up to Friday evening and then out on the, at the tent the day of.”

Other events will be held throughout the day and concessions will be for sale.

Olson said proceeds from the event will help Chetek Fire and Rescue purchase a new rescue boat.
