DALLAS, Wis. (WRN) — A town hall meeting on a proposed utility-scale solar project in the Dallas area is being held Friday evening.
The event is hosted by Republicans; Congressman and candidate for governor Tom Tiffany, State Sen. Romaine Quinn and State Rep. Dave Armstrong, at Whitmore Farms.
MN8 Energy is seeking approval from state regulators for a 900-acre, 100 megawatt project in the Town of Dallas. The company builds large-scale renewable energy projects, and sells their production as renewable-energy credits to utilities, governments, companies and data centers.
Gregory Whitmore says his family farm would be surrounded by the project, called Sandhill Solar.
Whitmore says he’s concerned about environmental impacts, pollution, and fire hazards, as well as the loss of farm land due to the project. He added there is very little local input in the state regulatory process, which he wants to change.
The town hall meeting and Q & A session is Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Whitmore Farms, 1482 1-1/2 Avenue, Dallas.
