MENOMONIE, Wis. (WJMC) — Police are investigating the death of a man on the campus of UW-Stout, in Menomonie.

UW-Stout Police Department identified the victim as Mason D. Barth, and said his death appeared to be the result of an accident. His body was discovered around 9 a.m. on Sunday, near Bowman Hall, where the school’s iconic clock tower is located.

Social media reportedly belonging to Barth, showed he was active with BASE jumping, an extreme sport involving parachuting from high structures, bridges or cliffs.

Media reports from 2019 showed Barth was injured and had to be rescued from a BASE jumping attempt when his parachute got caught on a guy wire off a 300-foot tower in Menomonie.

Barth was not a current student or staff member at UW-Stout, authorities said.
