MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The American Red Cross declares an emergency blood.

Laura McGuire is Regional Communications Manager for the Red Cross Wisconsin Region.

“Go and give blood. Our donation centers and our blood drives are air conditioned,” said McGuire.

July is a critical time for blood donations. Summer travel takes folks away from their routines and hospitals see an increase in trauma patients.

“But most importantly, our schools, which supply so much blood, are closed. So student donors are not giving blood,” she said.

McGuire says those high school and college students account for about 38,000 fewer donations during these critical summer weeks.

Make an appointment, and as a thank-you, all donors through the end of July will receive a Fandango Movie Ticket. Additional details can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/July.
