RICE LAKE, Wis. (NWN) — A Flock camera was intentionally damaged by fire over the weekend in Rice Lake.
Police Chief Steve Roux said the automated license plate reader camera on Orchard Beach Lane was damaged.
Dispatch logs showed a caller reporting a fire at the location on Saturday evening, and a person attempting to stop the fire from spreading to the grass before leaving the area.
Police responded and found the camera on fire. Rice Lake firefighters responded, extinguished the fire and disconnected the camera.
The chief said no suspects had been arrested as of Monday.
The cameras have become concerns for some over privacy, AI and mass surveillance issues. Police say they have been invaluable in solving crimes and tracking suspects.
The other dozen or so cameras in the city were not damaged.
