MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A bill requiring Wisconsin school districts have policies to restrict student cell phone use during instructional time is ready for Governor Tony Evers to consider.

Appleton Republican Rachael Cabral-Guevera is the Senate author.

“In essence, this bill requires school boards to put a policy in place that will restrict cell phone use during instructional time. But with the understanding that if the teacher okays it, the students can use their cell phone for educational purposes,” Cabral-Guevera said.

A survey by the state Department of Public Instruction found most school districts already have policies in place, and it’s unclear if Evers will sign this bill into law.
