(Dallas, TX) — Packers kicker Brandon McManus booted a 34-yard field goal with one second left in overtime Sunday night of a 40-40 tie in Dallas. Offenses dominated, with both teams running the ball well and both quarterbacks on the money. Jordan Love completed 31-of-43 for 337 and three touchdown connections with Romeo Doubs. Josh Jacobs rushed for 86 yards and two scores. Micah Parsons had only one sack, but it stopped what would have been a game-winning TD run by Dak Prescott. Green Bay has a bye this week.
DUBLIN (AP) — Kenneth Gainwell ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns and the Pittsburgh Steelers held on to beat the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 in Ireland’s first regular-season NFL game. DK Metcalf had five catches for 126 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown for the Steelers, who improved to 3-1 going into their bye week. Carson Wentz, making his second consecutive start for the injured J.J. McCarthy, was 30 for 46 for 350 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Vikings.
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers closed the 2025 MLB season with a 4-2 victory at home Sunday. The team they beat, the Cincinnati Reds, were also winners when the Mets lost to the Marlins. That put the Reds in the playoffs. They had jumped on top of the game in American Family Field with a pair of solo homers. Back-to-back doubles by Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang cut the lead in half, then catcher Danny Jansen’s two-run shot put Milwaukee ahead to stay. Closer Trevor Megill returned from the injured list to get the win. The Brewers are off until Saturday when they meet the winner of a series between the Cubs and Padres in the playoffs.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Trea Turner won his second career NL batting title, Kyle Schwarber led the NL with 56 homes and 132 RBIs and Nick Castellanos capped Philadelphia’s 96-win season with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning as the Phillies beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1. Turner and Schwarber have a few days to enjoy the spoils of their outstanding individual seasons before the NL East champion Phillies play again. The Phillies are set to host Game 1 of the NL Division Series on Saturday. Turner returned from a three-week layoff due to a hamstring injury and went 0 for 2, yet still finished a league-best .304 this season. Schwarber finished one homer ahead of Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani to lead the NL and four behind MLB leader Cal Raleigh of Seattle, who hit 60.
(Ann Arbor, MI) — A lot of attention will be focused on the next game for the Badgers. Fox Sports’ “Big Noon Kickoff” will be in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Saturday. The Michigan Wolverines are favored to beat Wisconsin with the betting line at 16-and-a-half points. One of the commentators on the game, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, coached with Badgers head man Luke Fickell. Meyer has defended Fickell in recent weeks after his time in Madison has resulted in a sub-.500 record.
(Bemidji, MN) — The Wisconsin women’s hockey team swept Bemidji State in the season-opening series for both teams. The Badgers blanked the Beavers in the second game Saturday, 5-0. Junior goalie Ava McNaughton saved all 12 shots she faced while pitching a shutout. Wisconsin goals came from freshman Adela Sapovalivova, Maggie Scannell, Cassie Hall, Laila Edwards, and Kirsten Simms. The Badgers play Maine next weekend, with a game Friday night in LaBahn Arena.
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Europe has won the Ryder Cup, just like everyone expected. It just didn’t happen without a few nervous moments. The Americans rallied from a seven-point deficit to have a flicker of hope. Europe needed only two points to retain the cup. Ludvig Åberg in the fifth match got the first one. Matt Fitzpatrick earned a halve that felt like a consolation because he had Bryson DeChambeau down by 5 holes at one point. Shane Lowry put his name in Irish lore with a halve to secure the cup. And then Tyrrell Hatton got the winning half-point for Europe.
