The Rangers lost their eighth game in a row to fall to 79-78 and were eliminated from the playoff chase. Joc Pederson’s ninth homer of the season gave Texas the early lead Tuesday night. NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball’s 11-man competition committee has approved use of the Automated Ball/Strike System in the major leagues in 2026. Human umpires will still call balls and strikes, but teams can challenge two calls per game. Challenges must be made by a pitcher, catcher or batter. A team retains its challenge if successful. Reviews will be shown as digital graphics on outfield videoboards. Adding robot umps could reduce ejections, as most are related to balls and strikes. The Automated Ball/Strike System has been tested in the minor leagues since 2019. The challenge system allows for ABS without eliminating pitch framing, a skill for catchers. This is MLB’s first major rule change since 2024.
(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers have released veteran wide receiver Mercole Hardman. There was some thought that Green Bay might activate the three-time Super Bowl champion with the injury to Jayden Reed. Hardman was on the team’s practice squad. Taking his place will be undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver Jakobie Kenney-James, who had been with the Detroit Lions previously.
Sacking Dak Prescott would be bittersweet for Micah Parsons. The two-time All-Pro pass rusher downplayed his upcoming return to Dallas and expressed his feelings about potentially taking down his friend and former teammate in a conversation with The Associated Press on Tuesday. Parsons and the Green Bay Packers face off against Prescott and the Cowboys in front of a national television audience on Sunday night. Parsons plans to treat it like an ordinary game, though it’ll be his first time inside AT&T Stadium as a visitor.
