MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — As many as 4,000 people who may have been exposed have been notified following Wisconsin’s second confirmed case of measles this year in a UW-Madison student.
Jake Bagott with University Health Services says Measles MMR vaccine is highly effective, and campus vaccination rates are high.
“While we don’t have full vaccination data for everyone on our campus, but we do know with a high level of confidence, we have a highly vaccinated population. We estimate based on our own data that about 95% of our campus is vaccinated against measles, which is a good place to be,” Bagott said.
UW community members should monitor for symptoms and that students should share their vaccination status with the university.
UW Madison does not require students to be vaccinated from the measles to attend. The US has seen a sudden spike in measles cases, with 588 reported as of last Thursday.
