HAYWARD, Wis. (WJMC) — Birkie week is coming up, and the northwoods need your help.
Events for the American Birkebeiner begin two weeks from today, February 18th, with Open Track, and run through the 22nd, stretching from Cable to Hayward. American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Executive Director Ben Popp says volunteers are needed, and this includes groups for fundraising opportunities.
“If a youth group is interested in coming and volunteering at one of our events. And they’re raising money for going on a trip, or new uniforms, or whatever it might be, we can then pay them to be here as part of the event, and part of their fundraiser. Good win win for both of us. Obviously, it gets a good group of folks here, learning about volunteerism, and the community. And they in turn can raise a little money,” Popp said.
Popp says they rely on over four thousands volunteers throughout the year, to cover a variety of jobs, from indoors to outdoors. For complete information about Birkie schedules and volunteer opportunities, check the website, birkie.com.
