MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Wisconsin Consumer Protection reminds people to be wary of standalone cryptocurrency kiosks.
Administrator Michelle Reinen says some people mistake these for ATMs.
These kiosks are not used to access a bank account. They’re used to buy and send cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Etherium,” Reinen said.
Reinen says up to 90 percent of the transactions at these booths can be tied to fraud, usually when criminals try to get people to send them cryptocurrency as part of another scam.
