NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (WJMC) — An 8-year-old boy has died from injuries in a crash caused by icy roads near New Richmond on Tuesday morning.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office said just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, a Chrysler Pacifica was driving north on County Highway A, south of New Richmond, when it lost control on an icy curve and collided with a southbound Subaru Outback.

The Pacifica driver, 27-year-old Alisha M. Hailey, of New Richmond, and 8-year-old Owen Hailey, seated in the third row, were injured. Both were wearing seat belts but sustained serious injuries and were taken to Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities. Authorities said Owen passed away late Tuesday, due to his injuries.

The driver of the Outback, 71-year-old Linda Stefonek, of New Richmond, was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

The crash was under investigation.
