RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — Organizers of the Barron County Truck Show have gone to social media to explain why this year’s truck parade was moved from Rice Lake to Cameron.
Kevin Roske is one of the volunteers for the event and manager of the Barron County Fairgrounds, where the truck show is held.
Roske said they applied for parade permit through the city. Due to a lack of officers, city officials offered a shorter route through residential neighborhoods and said trucks could not turn off their headlights or honk horns during the parade, Roske said, so they opted to move the parade to Cameron.
He said lack of support from city officials and the police department now feels like they are being unfairly scrutinized and targeted.
“I got a telephone call a couple of weeks before the event and the local chief of police of Rice Lake and sheriff of Barron County threatened me with bringing in a lot of people [officers] and handing out tickets for anybody that honked or didn’t have their headlights on,” Roske said.
Roske said the parade in Cameron was well received and welcomed, but he hopes the City of Rice Lake will work with the event for a better solution in the future.
