MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Online “sextortion” of children and teens is becoming alarmingly frequent and will become a standalone crime in Wisconsin, under terms of a bill Governor Tony Evers is expected to sign into law.
Thorp Republican Jesse James is the Senate author of Bradyn’s Law
“I know we can’t prevent every crime of extortion. That’s where these penalties come in. Having consequences that match the severity of the crime sends a message that this type of crime will not be taken lightly. In Wisconsin, I want to thank Brayden’s parents for coming forward during an incredibly difficult time to make a difference for other kids,” James said.
The bill allows for charging a Class B felony if the victim commits suicide, and for imprisonment up to 60 years on a conviction.
