GREEN BAY, Wis. (WRN) — How the NFL awards broadcasting rights, needs review, says a lawmaker.
Wisconsin Congressman Scott Fitzgerald says the NFL’s sports broadcasting agreement needs tweaks and dismisses concerns by the Green Bay Packers that any changes to shared revenue would be catastrophic for the team.
“Shared revenue is not an issue. And matter of fact, I don’t care how the NFL divides up the pie amongst the teams in the NFL. It’s not something that’s even affected by the SBA,” said Fitzgerald.
Jeff Miller, an executive vice president with the NFL, says the SBA has worked well for decades:
“And it’s been a great benefit to our fans who get every game, at least in the home teams markets on free over the air broadcast. Great for the clubs who have been able to compete equally because we distribute the revenue equally, so obviously great for Packers fans out there that their team can thrive on and off the field,” Miller said.
Miller and Fitzgerald were on WISN’s “UpFront” this week.
