CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (NWN) — The State Patrol is conducting aerial patrols for traffic violations.

Today, State Patrol planes will be flying over Highway 29 in Chippewa County. From the air it’s much easier to spot drivers who are speeding or driving aggressively. When a pilot observes a violation, they communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop.

The agency says aerial patrols are one way to promote public safety and ensure motorists reach their destinations safely. The aerial patrols are often publicized to remind drivers to follow traffic laws and the speed limit, not simply to stop and cite drivers.
