(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers spotted Cincinnati a three-run lead, then came from behind to grab a 5-3 victory Monday night at home. Joey Ortiz belted an eighth-inning homer with a man on base for the win. Brice Turang also went deep, Aaron Ashby got the pitching victory, and Trevor Megill the save. Brandon Sproat starts tonight’s game.

HOUSTON (AP) — Royce Lewis and Victor Caratini hit back-to-back homers, Zebby Matthews pitched seven stingy innings and the Minnesota Twins held off a late rally by the Houston Astros for a 5-4 victory. Josh Bell launched a two-run shot for the Twins, who led 5-1 before Travis Adams gave up a two-run homer to Taylor Trammell with two outs in the ninth. Yoendrys Gómez entered and immediately served up Cam Smith’s second home run of the game before retiring Joey Loperfido on a grounder for his ninth save. Houston had won five of six.
(New York, NY) — Former Bucks player Malik Beasley is one of six men facing federal charges in a sports gambling scheme. Four of the six are in custody, and an attorney for Beasley says his client will turn himself in. The defendants are accused of manipulating statistics in at least four games during the 2023-2024 NBA season. Federal prosecutors say their actions netted 121 thousand dollars illegally.
(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers pay their running backs a lot of money, but several NFL analysts are questioning the productivity the team can expect. Josh Jacobs is the lead running back for Green Bay, but his statistics slid backward in the 2025 season, and he has been arrested in a domestic abuse case. Jacobs has denied the accusations. Sports Illustrated reports that only two NFL teams spend more than the 21 million dollars the Packers pay their running backs. Some of the backsliding could be blamed on the knee injury Jacobs suffered during the season and the disappointing performance by his offensive line.
(Madison, WI) — Only three Wisconsin Badgers are listed on Athlon’s All-Big Ten preseason list. None are first-teamers. Linebacker Mason Posa is included in the second-team lineup. Posa is a second-team pick by several publications this preseason. Transfer safety Marvin Burks Junior is on the third team, and linebacker Cooper Catalano is on the fourth team. The list from Athlon includes more than 90 players and goes four teams deep.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — José Canale scored on the first sudden-death penalty kick, Orlando Gill made two key saves in the shootout, and Paraguay beat Germany 4-3 on penalties to earn the biggest upset of the 2026 World Cup. The Round of 32 match ended 1-1 after extra time. Paraguay took the lead when Julio Enciso scored on a header late in the first half, but Kai Havertz equalized in the 52nd minute for four-time champion Germany. Paraguay will next face the winner of Tuesday’s match between France and Sweden in the round of 16 on Saturday in Philadelphia.
GUADALUPE, Mexico (AP) — Ismael Saibari scored the decisive goal in a penalty shootout, and Morocco sent the Netherlands to its earliest World Cup exit, eliminating the Dutch 3-2 after a 1-1 draw. With the shootout tied at 2-all after four rounds, Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a strong save of Crysencio Summerville’s attempt, batting it away with his left hand. The Netherlands had reached at least the round of 16 in 11 previous World Cups, including a quarterfinal appearance four years ago, when Morocco reached the semifinals. Morocco moves on to face Canada in the Round of 16 on Saturday in Houston.
IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — U.S. captain Tim Ream says his teammates all recognize the golden opportunity in front of them to make their nation’s best World Cup run in their home tournament over the following days. Yet instead of feeling amplified pressure under the raised expectations created by their strong group round and a groundswell of national support, the Americans appeared to be energized by the opportunity to make history. The U.S. is significantly favored to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in the round of 32, which is sort of an achievement in itself. This team has won exactly one knockout-round match in its entire World Cup history.
