MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — National surveys reveal widespread misconceptions about the nation’s blood supply.
Laura McGuire is Regional Communications Manager for the American Red Cross Wisconsin Region
“One of the facts that we found out were fewer than one in five people understand that blood cannot be stockpiled and that it has that limited shelf life,” McGuire said.
And only about half those surveyed thought they or someone they know would ever need blood. In fact, someone needs blood in the U.S. every two seconds. Summer is a critical time for blood donations in Wisconsin and across the nation.
