MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has started to analyze how Wisconsin Medicaid members could be impacted by cuts at the federal level.
Wisconsin Medicaid Director Bill Hanna says eligibility requirements could change.
“If people lose eligibility, which they will inevitably because of the additional burdens, it’s not like these people disappear,” Hanna said. “They still need care, now they just won’t have the insurance, meaning hospitals again will be picking up additional costs, which get passed on to all healthcare consumers.”
Estimates show if cuts went into effect, Wisconsin could lose up to $16.8 billion in federal funding over a ten year period.
