MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — At the Capitol, tapping the breaks on an online sports betting bill.

The recently introduced measure was abruptly pulled from the state Assembly’s Wednesday floor calendar.

“There’s really no rush on this. The Senate’s not coming back this week. I had a conversation with a couple members over the weekend that brought up some points that I hadn’t considered yet, so we’re going to work through those, and I expect that we’ll be voting on it early next year,” said Majority Leader Tyler August.

August didn’t elaborate, but said there are no constitutional issues, and he was confident the bipartisan bill would have passed if brought to a vote.

The bill would require online wagers to be routed through servers on tribal casinos or properties. It’s drawn opposition from conservative groups.
