MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Wisconsin has already seen 25 fatalities this year as the result of ATV/UTV crashes, with most happening on public roadways as more municipalities and counties have increasingly allowed them.

Department of Natural Resources Lt. Jacob Holsclaw says manufactures don’t recommend the vehicles be used on roads.

“Low pressure tires, the suspension, they have a high center of gravity, they’re designed for off road operation. And then on the UTV side, they have low pressure tires as well, higher center of gravity and then a steering wheel. And so sometimes I think folks forget that this isn’t a normal motor vehicle,” Holsclaw said.

Wisconsin had 40 ATV/UTV fatalities last year.
