BARRON, Wis. (NWN) — Celebrate June Dairy Month with the Barron County Dairy Promoters tomorrow.

Barron County boasts the longest running June Dairy Breakfast in the state of Wisconsin, and tomorrow they’ll mark the 51st, by serving the traditional pancakes, all-Wisconsin omelet, maple syrup, applesauce, cheese, milk, and coffee.

The Nelson Family Farm welcomes attendees to their farm that goes back to 1970, where they milk a herd of Holsteins.

“We milk about 135 cows. Farm about 500 acres. We still milk in a tie stall barn. The milk gets picked up every day, and is shipped to Ellsworth Creamery, in Ellsworth, for their legendary cheese curds,” said Justin Nelson.
“We recently put in a TMR system. The cows have been performing really good on it. They average about 93 pounds a day. There’s about 200 youngstock on the farm, between heifers, dry cows, calves. Basically prepping for the next generation of cows to come through the barn for us.”

The event will feature music with The Magnolia Ramblers, visiting from Mississippi, Ellsworth cheese curds, a self-guided farm tour, a history display, door prizes, and much more.

The farm is located on County F, southwest of Barron, at 903 7 ½ Avenue. Breakfast served from 6 to 11-AM. Free will offering will be taken.
