BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — Now through Labor Day, police departments, sheriff’s offices and state patrol posts are increasing efforts to stop and prevent impaired driving with the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

This includes the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, that said more than 7,000 crashes in the state last year were due to drugs or alcohol. Nearly half of traffic deaths, 218 out of 509 deaths, involved drugs or alcohol.

The Sheriff’s Department encourages people to designate a sober driver a head of time, don’t drive if you are intoxicated and instead ask for a ride from a sober friend, taxi or Safe Ride. Don’t let others drive impaired either. If you suspect a driver is impaired, report it to 911.
