MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Remember to call 811 before you dig in your yard. That’s the number for Digger’s Hotline, and spokesman Chad Kruger says making sure you know what’s underground before you start a project could save your wallet or your life.
“So we’re talking electric lines, we’re talking natural gas lines. That stuff could be really dangerous. A water line could be dangerous. There’s a lot of water, you know, maybe could flood out an area or your excavation,” Kruger said.
Kruger says even simple projects like digging up stumps, putting in fence posts, or starting a garden could run into underground placements. Digger’s Hotline is free, and you should call at least a few days ahead of your project to give utilities time to come and mark your yard
