MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — This week it is “Buckle Up, Phone Down” on Wisconsin roadways, says the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Those are the two most important things to achieve zero road deaths. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 563 people died in crashes in 2023, and most were preventable. 142 of those fatalities were drivers or passengers not wearing a seatbelt. Also in 2023, more than 9,000 distracted driving crashes resulted in 23 fatalities.
