MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — As they campaign around Wisconsin, candidates for governor are giving voters an idea of where they stand on the hot button issue of AI data centers.
“Let’s make sure we have local input. Make sure that local governments have a say in whether they’re sited in their communities,” said Republican congressman Tom Tiffany.
“We have to focus on making sure that we have accountability with these data centers. They have to pay their own way, they need to pay for their own infrastructure, and they need to bring their own new clean energy,” said Democrat, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
Tiffany says data centers don’t belong on valuable farmland. Numerous local governments are considering or have adopted moratoriums on data center developments. Neither Crowley or Tiffany has specifically committed to enacting a statewide moratorium.
