CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WRN) — Scam callers are attempting to extort residents, warns the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said victims reported threatening phone calls saying the person has a warrant for missing jury duty or demanding money for a supposed family member’s bail.

These calls are designed to frighten and manipulate to extort money and the sheriff’s department will never ask for gift cards, cash apps or crypto currency payments, or ask for payment over the phone. Never send any money, do not respond and report any suspicious calls to local authorities.
