Preliminary numbers show a slight drop in hunter numbers during this year’s Wisconsin deer hunt.

Department of Natural Resources Deer Program Specialist Jeff Pritzl says despite that there’s been relatively stable participation the last four years.

“We saw a slight increase last year actually so we’re talking way less than a percent change and that slight decline in gun license sales is almost totally made-up for in a slight increase in both versions of archery license sales,” Pritzl said.

Deer licenses dropped just .12%, totaling 790,044. Hunters registered a total of 182,084 deer during this year’s nine day gun season.
