MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Wisconsin DNR is hoping to get more deer carcass samples to test for chronic wasting disease this hunting season.

The Department of Natural Resources is asking hunters to provide more deer carcass samples this year to test for chronic wasting disease. Herd health specialist Erin Larson says they had good participation last year, but want to see more testing in parts of the state with new CWD detections.

“We did get a good number of samples throughout the state, but in those priority areas we would like to see increased sampling and then our goal for this year is 19,750,” Larson said.

Those areas include the Highway 29 and Highway 51 corridors, western Wisconsin, and counties on a line from La Crosse to Sheboygan. Find out more online at DNR.wi.Gov, and search for CWD testing.
