MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Wisconsin Democrats warn of impending Affordable Care Act premium increases that will impact thousands of people in the state.
Governor Tony Evers said the premium increases will impact Wisconsinites differently, depending on their age and where they live.
“In a middle-class family of four in Wausau, see their premium more than double, going from $886 a month to over two $2300 a month. A 60- year-old couple in Rice Lake, making about $85,000 a year, could see their premium rocket “only” 800%. That’s an annual increase of over $30,000 in costs. A 26-year-old in Eau Claire who makes $48,000 a year is and is no longer eligible . . . for their parents insurance. They’d see their premium double, costing an additional $2000 per year,” Evers said.
Evers joined Senator Tammy Baldwin and Representatives Gwen Moore and Mark Pocan on a Monday press conference. The governor said many families may choose to go without health insurance.
