MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Advocates for firearms safety were at the Capitol on Tuesday.

Melissa Tuttle Carr with Moms Demand Action says they’re advocating for action that would include allowing courts and police to take guns from persons deemed a risk to themselves or others.

“There’s just been far too long here that we’ve had no action on gun violence, and meanwhile people still continue to get killed all across our state or die by suicide as well. So gun violence is a multifaceted problem. It’s not just in our cities. It’s not just school shootings. Every shooting is tragic, but it’s just really about keeping guns out of the hands of people who should not have them,” said Tuttle Carr.

Bills like extreme risk protection and requiring background checks for all firearms transfers have repeatedly failed to advance in the Republican controlled legislature.
