DULUTH, Minn. (WJMC) — Flood warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Duluth for parts of Burnett and Washburn counties.

Between an 1.5 inches and 6 inches of rain fell overnight with small amounts possible this morning. Rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying areas and other flood-prone areas are inundated with floodwaters.

Areas under the warning include Trego, Minong, Hertel, St. Croix Band Sand Lake area, Lampson, McKenzie Lake, Minong Flowage, Saint Croix Band Gasly area and Birch Island Lake. Parts of Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas counties also have flood warnings. The warnings are in effect though 10:15 this morning.

Officials remind people to avoid floodwaters at all costs and do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Only 6 inches of moving water can knock a person off their feet and 12 inches of rushing water can carry away a car or small SUV.
