MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Wisconsin higher education leaders are addressing potential changes to federal financial aid programs and how they could impact students.
Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman says it makes no sense to narrow educational opportunities.
“I am dumbfounded that cutting educational opportunities would even be considered when our economic vibrancy as a nation is at stake. It is not too late for Congress to reverse course and do the right thing for Wisconsin students,” Rothman said.
Under the “Big Beautiful Bill” passed in the U.S. House Thursday, graduate students and parents would be restricted from receiving Federal Direct Plus Loans starting in July of 2026.
