HAYWARD, Wis. (WJMC) — After a nearly 28-hour standoff with police, a Hayward man is in custody.

Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek said 62-year-old Michael D. Olsen entered an unoccupied home on Sun N Sno Road, east of Hayward. He was not known to the homeowners and was discovered there midday Sunday, with callers reporting he had multiple firearms.

A standoff with police ensued, as authorities negotiated with Olsen to cooperate and exit the house. He was taken into custody without incident just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Police said there was no threat to the public during the incident. It was not immediately known why Olsen entered the home. The sheriff said more details will be released today.
