MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Wisconsin state Senate passed numerous bills on Tuesday.
During a pre-session press conference Democratic Senator Jeff Smith called out one that would prohibit undocumented individuals from receiving taxpayer funded healthcare
“We should be ashamed as a body here that we’re even talking about, that on the floor,” Smith said.
Republican Senator Van Wanggaard cited states including Minnesota that have restricted publicly financed healthcare for their undocumented residents.
“All we’re doing is ensuring that no governor or department could just create by a rule a healthcare program for people who are here illegally,” Wanggaard.
Many Republican authored measures face likely vetoes from Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
