MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — New laws for ATV and UTV riders go into effect on Monday, June 1.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Lt. Jacob Holsclaw says one big change involves UTV seatbelt use.
“with the code change, we made that clear that wasn’t just the passengers, that was always the operator. so all occupants of that machine are required to wear seat belts. A lot of our fatalities and injuries are occurring because people are not wearing their seat belts,” Holsclaw said.
The DNR reported 42 fatal accidents involving off-highway vehicles last year.
