MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Wisconsin Office of Children’s Mental Health is stressing the importance of safely storing firearms.

“A gun safe is often considered the gold standard for how to lock up a gun, but there are also gun locks that can go right on the gun. Many organizations and health systems are issuing those kinds of locks for free, so people should be able to get them fairly easily,” said  OCMH Director Linda Hall.

Research has found that 8 in 10 kids who die by a firearm suicide obtained the gun from a family member.
