RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — You’ve heard about big changes to WAQE FM today.

WAQE FM, formerly The Star, is now LAKE 97.7. General manager for Armada Media in Rice Lake, Mike Bigner, talks about the change.

“You know, Rice Lake and the entire region, they’re known for their beautiful lakes. And we wanted our name to reflect that local pride. That’s where the all new Lake 97.7 WAQE feels much more personal and tied to Northwest Wisconsin,” Bigner said.

“We still have the same great local team, Ryan Quinn in the morning, and your favorites throughout the day. We’re just giving ourselves a name that better represents the entire area we serve. We’re upgrading our power from 25,000 watts to 50,000 watts.

“Once the upgrade’s complete, we’re going to have the largest radio signal in Northwest Wisconsin. The new coverage area stretches from St. Croix Falls to Ladysmith, from Eau Claire all the way to Hayward. By the way, make sure you follow us on our new Facebook page, The Lake 97.7.”

You’ll also hear some changes to the music, with no-repeat workdays and 90’s mixtape blocks on the weekend.
