SHREVEPORT, La. (WJMC) — Nearly 1,100 miles away from home, a former Rice Lake Warrior is helping to rewrite the baseball history books in the bayou.
Louisiana State University-Shreveport just completed a perfect regular season with a record of 54-0. One of the key contributors on that team is a 5’11” lefty from the north woods of Wisconsin.
Isaac Rohde graduated from Rice Lake high school in 2019. Now he’s the ace of the Pilots pitching staff. The senior led the team with 14 wins including five complete games and has thrown 25 more innings than his closest teammate.
Rohde was even called upon to secure the perfect season on short rest. After the starter went down just six pitches into the game Rohde was called in on just two days’ rest to take over. He went 4 ⅔ innings with five strikeouts, just two hits and no runs allowed to pick up the win. Rohde says his coach didn’t give him much of a heads up that he’d be taking the mound.
“He didn’t really give me much before. It was pretty much ‘get ready to throw and if we need you we’ll call you,” Rohde told KSLA.
LSUS claimed the top seed in the NAIA playoffs and will host Grandview on Friday.
