MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — At the Capitol this week, a Senate Committee heard testimony in support of “Bradyn’s Law”, which would increase the punishment for those convicted of sextortion.

Brittney Bird is the mother of 15-year-old Bradyn Bohn, who fell victim to a sextortion scam and died by suicide in March.

“The first step to making a change starts here. Passing this law will show we are serious about our children’s safety and will not tolerate this anymore. Although it won’t directly affect our case, it’s our hope that by passing Braydn’s law, we can deter these criminals from preying on kids in Wisconsin,” Bird said.

Under the bill, perpetrators of sextortion could be charged with a Class B felony if the victim dies by suicide, which would allow for imprisonment up to 60 years.

The bill was unanimously passed in the Wisconsin Assembly in June.
