WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRN) — At least four members of Congress from Wisconsin are among those foregoing pay during the federal government’s partial shutdown.
House Republicans Glenn Grothman and Tony Weid both posted pictures to social media of letters sent to the House Chief Administrative Officer making the request to withhold their pay during the shutdown, which both blame on Democrats. Republican Representative Brian Steil and Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin also asked for their pay to be held back.
The annual salary for most senators and representatives is about $174,000 a year.
Federal employees deemed essential, and members of the U.S. armed forces are required to work without pay until after the shutdown ends.
