(New York, NY) — Four clutch free throws in the last 21 seconds helped heavily-favored St. John’s hold off upset-minded Marquette Wednesday night 76-70. The Golden Eagles’ fourth loss in the last five games dropped their record to 9-and-18, 4-and-12 in conference play. Freshman Nigel James Junior was good for 25 points, and Royce Parham had 13. Ben Gold grabbed 10 rebounds. Marquette is off until next Tuesday when it travels to Georgetown.
(Green Bay, WI) — University of Wisconsin-Green Bay coach Doug Gottlieb won’t be on the sidelines when the Phoenix play at Oakland Friday. The Horizon League has suspended Gottlieb for one game for the comments he made after Sunday’s loss to the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. Gottlieb has apologized. Along with questioning a critical call and slamming his fists down on a table after the game, he was also rebuked for cursing. He will be replaced by assistant Kerry Rupp.

(Madison, WI) — In an attempt to bring the Wisconsin football program back to its former winning ways, coach Luke Fickell and his staff are bringing on more than 30 new players through the transfer portal. But that hasn’t improved the perception of the talent level on the roster. Athlon Sports ranks UW’s talent fifth from the bottom of the Big Ten Conference, according to Sports Illustrated. The new names lack proven, consistent talent. It will be up to the coaches to develop them into winners.
(Green Bay, WI) — The full NFL 2026 schedule won’t be released until May, but it’s looking like the Packers won’t be playing in Mexico City. The league announced Wednesday that the San Francisco 49ers will be one of the two teams playing there, and the 49ers don’t appear on Green Bay’s schedule. The NFL is planning to have nine regular-season games at international locations. Three games will be played in London, with others in Paris, Munich, and Madrid. The Packers will likely be on the field for one.

MILAN (AP) — The U.S. and Canada are moving on to the semifinals at the Olympics. Each needed extra hockey to get through the quarterfinals. Quinn Hughes scored in overtime to put the U.S. past Sweden 2-1 after giving up the tying goal to Mika Zibanejad with 91 seconds left in the third period. Dylan Larkin deflected Jack Hughes’ shot in for the only U.S. goal in regulation. Nick Suzuki tied it for Canada late in regulation against Czechia, and Mitch Marner won it 4-3 in overtime to avoid what would have been a stunning early exit.
MILAN (AP) — American speedskater Jordan Stolz heads into the 1,500-meter race at the Olympics in search of his third gold medal of the Milan Cortina Winter Games. Stolz is again the favorite at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium on Thursday. He also held that status for the 500 last Sunday and the 1,000 on Feb. 11, both of which he won. Those earlier victories made the 21-year-old from Wisconsin just the second man to get gold at both of those distances at one Olympics, joining Eric Heiden, who collected a total of five titles at the 1980 Lake Placid Games.
