(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers swept the St. Louis Cardinals by breaking up a Wednesday afternoon no-hitter at American Family Field. An eighth-inning single by Christian Yelich tied the score at 1-1, then the winning run crossed the plate on a rare error by the Cardinals’ Gold Glove shortstop. The 2-1 decision means Milwaukee has won 15 of its last 19 games. Reliever Aaron Ashby earned his Major League-leading ninth win. The Brewers are off tonight (Thursday), then open a weekend series at Houston Friday.
CHICAGO (AP) — Chase Meidroth hit his first career grand slam, David Sandlin struck four in six innings in his major league debut, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 15-2. Munetaka Murakami went 2 for 4 with a solo homer. His 20 home runs are tied for second in MLB history through 55 career games. Minnesota’s Byron Buxton homered to lead off the game, but the 25-year-old Sandlin retired 18 consecutive batters — the first White Sox pitcher to retire 18 batters in a row in his debut since 1920. Minnesota starter Connor Prielipp (1-3) gave up six runs and eight hits.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers held their first organized team activities open to the media Wednesday. Head coach Matt LaFleur made limited comments about domestic abuse charges filed against running back Josh Jacobs. Acme Packing Company-dot-com reports that he and injured edge rusher Micah Parsons weren’t present. Injuries kept players like tight end Tucker Kraft, offensive tackle Zach Tom, cornerback Kamal Hadden, and defensive linemen Devote Wyatt and Jordan Riley off the field. Reporters say rookie kicker Trey Smack connected on seven of eight attempts, and they were told that, currently, Skyy Moore, Jayden Reed, and Matthew Golden are candidates to return punts.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was released from a Wisconsin jail while authorities further investigate allegations of domestic abuse. The Brown County prosecutor gave an update Wednesday. District Attorney David Lasee said it’s too soon to make a formal charging decision. Jacobs was arrested Tuesday in Brown County on allegations of strangulation and other offenses over the weekend. Jacobs’ lawyers said they’re pleased that he’s out of jail.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The combination of skills and experience Kyler Murray carried with him to the Minnesota Vikings has made him their presumptive starting quarterback this season even if the coaching staff declared an open competition for the job with J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy made his first public comments about the arrival of Murray on Wednesday after the first offseason practice session the team opened to reporters. McCarthy said there’s no awkwardness between them but described their relationship tersely as “two guys in a classroom.”
