(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers put 16 runs on the scoreboard Monday night in another game without a home run. Milwaukee scored seven times in the second inning on the way to a 16-2 rout of the San Francisco Giants. Jackson Chourio drove in three runs, and Christian Yelich and David Hamilton each had three hits. Chad Patrick got the win in relief. Kyle Harrison is scheduled to start the second game of the series tonight (Tuesday).

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Tristan Gray hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and the Minnesota Twins added four more runs in the fifth on the way to a 9-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. The Twins snapped a five-game losing streak. The White Sox had their five-game winning streak halted. Gray’s 384-foot shot over the wall in right field — his second career grand slam and first since the Twins’ home opener on April 3 — gave Minnesota a 5-1 lead it never surrendered. Joe Ryan (4-3) allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings with nine strike outs. Travis Adams allowed two runs in the ninth before closing out the win.

PHOENIX (AP) — Courtney Williams scored 30 points on 13-of-20 shooting, Olivia Miles had 19 points and nine assists, and the Minnesota Lynx eased past the Phoenix Mercury 111-77. Minnesota jumped out to a 35-22 lead after the first quarter, began the second on an 11-4 run and ended the half with 67 points. It was the third-most points in any half of a road game in WNBA history. Williams made eight of her 10 shots in the first half for 19 points to help Minnesota build a 67-40 lead after shooting 75% from the field (27 of 36). Miles had 13 points and five assists by halftime and Natasha Howard added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Minnesota led 88-56 after three.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Packers’ hopes for a Super Bowl berth have been complicated by a trade. The Los Angeles Rams sent a package to Cleveland for the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett. He set the league record for sacks with 23 last season. Garrett and Green Bay’s Micah Parsons are generally considered to be the top two defensive players in the league. The Rams and Packers are scheduled to meet at SoFi Stadium Thanksgiving Eve.

(Madison, WI) — Former Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson has announced he is retiring from professional football. Not only is Wilson one of the best quarterbacks to play college ball in Wisconsin, but he is also considered one of the top signal-callers in NFL history. ESPN reported the change Monday. Wilson has accepted a position as an analyst with CBS Sports NFL coverage for the upcoming season.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Marquette director of athletics Mike Broeker is adding a national position to his resume. Broeker has been named to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee. He assumes one of three Big East Conference seats on the committee. Broeker becomes a member of the 20-person panel immediately.

PARIS (AP) — Serena Williams is returning to professional tennis at the age of 44 after nearly four years away from the sport. The WTA Tour has announced that the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion has accepted a wild card invitation to play doubles at the upcoming Queen’s Club grass-court tournament. The Queen’s Club tournament starts June 8. Williams has not competed since bidding farewell at the 2022 U.S. Open. Williams said at the time she didn’t want to use the word “retiring” and instead declared that she was “evolving” away from tennis. The WTA says Williams will play “with a partner to be announced in due course.”
