RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — There are two write-in candidates for Rice Lake’s District 2 city council seat.
They are Eric Pelle and incumbent Gina Sookiayak.
Pelle said his fiduciary experience will help as a council member.
“And I think we need someone with a strong fiscal background to get the most value out of tax dollars,” Pelle said. “It’s not about cutting services or anything like that, but a matter of using our dollars wisely so our city can continue to grow and be enhanced by good governance.”
Sookiayak said with a new city clerk-treasurer and city administrator, she was running for re-election to keep institutional knowledge on the council.
“There’s a lot of filling-in-the-gaps to get people up to speed or to remember why we’ve made decisions in the past or how we’ve come about the process in working with certain developers or housing opportunities,” Sookiayak said. “And it just started to become more and more apparent that we were loosing four people at that table who were going to have that knowledge to be able to help fill in those gaps.”
The election is April 1 and both District 2 candidates are registered write-in candidates.
