MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A conservative law firm says it’s ready to sue Wisconsin if a bill allowing for sports betting is signed into law.
Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty deputy counsel Lucas Weber tells WISN’s UPFRONT that the state constitution prohibits the Legislature from allowing gambling.
“30 years ago, the people of Wisconsin took away their power to do so. I don’t think there’s really any doubt. The legislature simply can’t pass this bill,” Weber said.
Weber says lawmakers can’t edge around the constitution by changing the legal definition of a bet to allow tribal casinos to handle betting remotely.
