MADISON, Wis. (WJMC) — Wisconsin joins a lawsuit over the Trump administration terminating a Federal Emergency Management Agency program, which the administration called “wasteful” and “politicized.”

The Building resilient Infrastructure and Communities Program—or BRIC Program—funds projects that help protect communities and infrastructure from natural disasters.

State Attorney General Josh Kaul and 19 other states say the program is integral to the law passed by Congress mandating pre-disaster mitigation efforts, following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The termination of the BRIC program has canceled the building of tornado shelters in Grant County, flood protection for a bridge along the Kickapoo River and risks planned updates to state and local hazard mitigation plans.
