MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — At the Capitol, Democratic lawmakers introduce legislation to prohibit concealed carry of firearms on Wisconsin college and university campuses.

UW – Madison sophomore Nessa Bleill is a survivor of the Highland Park, Illinois mass shooting that killed seven people.

“Our campuses should be safe places. No one should ever fear for their life in a space of growth and learning, and yet fear is our current reality. I have feared for my life at school since I was five years old, since the first time I performed an active shooter drill and learned how to hide from a gunman in my kindergarten classroom,” Bleill said.

The proposal comes the same day as a shooting at Minneapolis Catholic school that killed at least two children and injured several others.

The bill is unlikely to even receive a committee hearing in the Republican controlled legislature.
