MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Caution on Wisconsin roads is advised as deer activity increases.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, over 17,000 crashes involving deer happened in the state last year, with more than a third occurring during the October and November mating season for deer.
Those wrecks resulted in nine deaths and 707 being injured. The Wisconsin State Patrol says the best ways to avoid hitting deer on the move are to drive at a safe speed, eliminate distractions, and make sure everyone in your vehicle is wearing a seat belt.
